The Hunter
All's going great with issue 4 of THE HUNTER...full steam ahead for the final act. I wish I could share every new thing I have drawn but it would take up far too much space and take forever to put them here, so I have to pick my favourites. I love the Galactus/Skrull I did on the MARVEL SECRET INVASION cover, also chunky superman is a fave. Check out my my-space site as I'm planning to post a lot more daily sketches as it's much easier to put them up and take them down. Oh and don't forget if you would like a commission doing for Christmas then let me know as soon as you can as there's a bit of a waiting list and it's only going to get bigger.
New images of The Hunter will be coming soon so keep checking back!
The Hunter Issue 4
Well I'm cracking on with Issue 4 of "THE HUNTER" and it's mighty...it's even more pages...74 so far...and it's crammed with action. I have just gotten past the ruffed stages and I'm starting the finished pages Monday...can't wait for you all to see it...will keep you posted.
Red Comet
My super hero epic "RED COMET" is coming together nice. I think we have nailed the design and now it's just a case of tweaking the first 6 issue story run, which I think is some really exciting stuff not seen in comics. We are aiming for a timeless feel yet keeping it contemporary and fresh. The new red comet designs will be posted on the site soon.
Wedding Stuff
I want to say thank you to everyone who sent me messages wishing me good luck with the wedding...it was a perfect day,the sun was out and the setting was amazing...so thank you from me and my beautiful new bride Katie :-).
Thought Bubble Convention
I will be at the thought bubble convention in Leeds on the 15th of November. It's a 4 day comic festival that's set within the Leeds film festival. The convention will be held at the Royal Armouries (which if you haven't been there you should...it's awesome). I will be signing the first 3 issues of "THE HUNTER" and drawing sketches for anyone that asks.
Manchester and Leeds Comic Marts
I will be at the next Manchester comic mart on Saturday 27th of March. Again I will be signing copies of issues 1 to 3 of "THE HUNTER" and drawing commissions. I will also be at the Leeds comic mart on Saturday 18th of October which has a great new venue of the Leeds City Hall...more room for comic tables and collectors which is great...hope to see you there.
The Hunter Issue 3 Review
Here is what Ain't It Cool News thought of Issue 3
THE HUNTER #3: Terminal Oblivion
It’s been fun to see this comic evolve into something pretty darn distinct and special. The first issue of this series really surprised me as it switched gears and switched gears again plot-wise, letting me know that this wasn’t one of those comics where you knew what was going to happen ten pages ahead of the author. In two issues, writer Adam Hamdy has continued to flesh out the characters of The Hunter and especially the Freak into something unique. It’s been especially cool to see the Freak evolve into one of the cooler new characters to grace comics in recent years. This zombified, muscle-bound, man-machine berserker is one of those over the top characters that I want to see more of. David Golding’s artwork continued to evolve and become more fluid as the issues go by. And as the plot forces the Hunter and the Freak together to fight a common foe, it’s evident that this is one of those books that just won’t stop getting better. Seek out THE HUNTER #3 and its previous issues. It will definitely surprise you.

The Hunter Issue 3
HUNTER ISSUE 3 IS DONE!!! and in the bag, so it's off to the printers and should be in the shops within a week or so. It's the best issue so far I think and I'm really happy with the way my drawing and story telling is getting better. I will be selling signed issues through the site here and on e-bay for £4.00 signed with a head sketch...it's still 64 pages with full colour awesomeness (is that even a word?) I'm currently designing 2 new characters for issue 4 and ruffing the final story part. I have read it and it rocks...really great end part...and loads of kick-assness (I know that's not a real word). I will tell you more as i draw it.
NEW PICTURES POSTED SOON.
More pictures will be posted soon. I have to draw a lot so the wonderful techno-Zoe (she of infinite computer wisdom) can put them on the website in one massive upload. Some pictures are commissions from the London Film and Comic Con I attended a few weeks ago, and others I have done just for fun...keep checking back.
Manchester and Sheffield comic marts
I won't be attending the comics marts in Manchester and Sheffield in August and September as one lands on my birthday and the other is when I will be on my honeymoon, but I will be back in full commission drawing mode once I'm tanned and shiny.
London Film and Comic Con
Sorry I haven't posted any news recently...it's so hard to keep up with things when I'm so busy drawing titles. First I want to say thank-you to everyone I met at the London Film and Comic Con a couple of weeks ago. It's only the second large comic convention I have done (and by no means the last) and I had a real blast. Most bizarre moment of the weekend was by far drawing a Garfield on a young ladies bra...you wouldn't think drawing comics would be so rock and roll would ya? It was great meeting people and seeing their reactions to the commissions I was drawing...the whole weekend was a blast and I'm definitely going again next year...and i got to meet and shake hands with John Landis (one of my all time heroes) who made my all time favourite movie "An American Werewolf In London" I'm still grinning :-)
London Film and Comic Con Commissions
Thanks to everyone who bought a commission from me. If you are waiting for your commission in the post it's going to take a week or so more than promised...I'm really sorry for the delay...but due to issue 3 of "THE HUNTER" running a little late all effort is to get it done and lettered. At the moment I'm only 5 pages away from finishing and it's by far the best issue so far. If you have any questions about commissions then please e-mail me through this site.
Leeds and Manchester comic marts
I will be at the Manchester comic mart on August 9th...Click here for details about Golden Orbit comic marts. I will be signing issues of issue 1 and 2 of "THE HUNTER" and drawing commissions.
The Hunter Issue 3
I'm almost at the end of drawing issue 3...5 pages to go...and I have to say it's the best so far...and from what Adam tells me of issue 4 the best is still yet to come. My art is getting better all the time and more importantly my speed. The one question I get asked the most is "how long does it take to draw a page?" and my answer is "one page a day" it can depend on what's on the page. I average a page a day but sometimes when it's all going really well I can do 2 and a half pages, but the thing about drawing comics is it's a business and you have to treat it as such...so I work from 9 till 5 and whatever shape that page is in at 5pm then that's the way its going to press. When I first started drawing the HUNTER title I was drawing a page every 3 days...and they are nice pages, but you have to get the work down and out the door...it's a deadline medium. But the more you draw (and I draw all day every day) the better you are going to get. I'm getting off topic...so issue 3 of the HUNTER will be in shops next month...you can see the cover for issue 3 in my pin ups gallery.
Whats happening after THE HUNTER?
Well I'm contracted to draw issue 3,then I will finish with issue 4...that will end that story line. Then it's going to a monthly title, I won't be drawing that because I'm moving to another DARE COMICS title called "BATTALION" I can't say too much about it (because I don't know much at the moment) but I have drawn and coloured the wrap around cover for issue 1 which was on show at the London film and comic con, and I will be posting it here on my web site really soon.
My character, titles and ideas
If you look around my little site you will see some of my own characters I have designed..."what's happening with those?" you may or may not ask. Well I'm currently working with my good friend Matt Spaull who's an excellent writer and has worked on such high profile British shows such as "Casualty". We are reworking and writing a really cool superhero called "RED COMET" there are some RED COMET designs here on the site and I did use a RED COMET cover I drew for my postcards which I give away at marts and with commissions. Well he doesn't look like that anymore. I will post new designs here soon...it's shaping up great and I think we have come up with something special. I will keep you posted with more news as things progress...also FLAMING HAMSTER!!! Well it's still being sorted out at DARE COMICS but it's on the back burner at the moment as both Adam and I are really busy finishing off the HUNTER but once we finish issue 3 we can sit down and sort out all things Hamster related.
Deviant Art
I will be signing up on Deviant Art website really soon...as well as other art sites...more news about that when I do it.
Wedding Bells
Also a quick note...issue 4 of THE HUNTER will, I think take a little (and only a little) bit longer to get in the shops as in September I'm getting married...WOOO HOOOO!!! and I'm having some time off. It's hard drawing all day then sorting out which disco to get at night...STRESSED MUCH!!! naaaaar.
THE HUNTER ISSUE 1 AND 2 REVIEWS.
Hi all,
Here are a couple of reviews for issue 2 of THE HUNTER...the first one is from "aint it cool news":
aint it cool news
The first issue of this series surprised me with the opening scenes depicting a meticulously plotted and simultaneous attack on multiple cities of America. Then, out of the blue, this real world comic veered off into super-hero territory and an entire mythology of fantasy was added to the mix. It was a harsh U-turn, but one executed with a lot of effectiveness. This was a book that showed a lot of promise. Issue two develops both aspects of that first issue (the real world terrorism angle and the super-powered beings angle) and develops them further while bringing them closer together.
Again, I am impressed by the way writer Adam Hamdy juggles the two themes with such skill. The super hero stuff is vivid and dynamic. The terrorism/military scenes are equally tense and echo with real world drama. As the two aspects of this book come closer together, I expect more good things from this book in future issues. The art, which in the last issue I commented on as being a bit stiff, has indeed loosened up. It's good to see an artist like David Golding evolve and grow. This is one of those pleasant surprises I might never have discovered if not for this Indie Jones column. It came in under the radar and blew my socks off. Check it out and be surprised as well.

The Hunter #1 and #2 (Dare Comics)
Written by Adam Hamdy
Art by David Golding (pencils, inks, colors), Jhosephine Tanuwidjaya (colors)
Letters by David Golding
Covers by David Golding
The Hunter is a thriller that focuses on a super-powered CIA agent, dubbed The Hunter, who is part of an elite group that takes down rogue super soldiers that were developed by the Soviets during the Cold War (known as “Sleepers”). Through the course of the first two issues, the Hunter slowly learns the truth behind his past, which had previously been completely unknown to him. In the midst of this, a wide-scale terrorist attack has crippled major population centers across the US and investigations have begun into possible Sleeper involvement. This strong premise is the backdrop to a surprisingly character-focused story, much akin to DDP’s Drafted series.
This book is definitely filled with action and suspense, but Hamdy puts his characters first and foremost in the series. The Hunter and the President of the United States get the most focus, as they are central to the book’s main plots, but both are backed-up well by strong supporting casts. Adam Hamdy’s dialogue is filled with comic book conventions (banter, over-the-top foreshadowing, etc.), which is to be expected, but also contains strong nuances that delve deeper into the character’s personalities and help build the mysteries that permeate the story. Beyond the great characterization and strong script, Hamdy throws in some contemporary politics for flavor, but does so deftly enough that it can be taken as a visceral background to the story, but can also be read on a deeper level as commentary on the price of security in the modern world. On both levels it is effective, with the latter being very thought provoking and well-handled (which, given how easily it is to slip into being heavy-handed when it comes to politics, is very impressive on Hamdy’s part).
The pacing of the story is fantastic, with strong transitions between the methodic “talking” scenes and the more chaotic action sequences, as well as great shifts when the plot twists. Much of this can be attributed to the strong script, but David Golding’s art is central to the effectiveness of the storytelling. For much of each issue, he sticks to standard comic grids (think Watchmen), but easily switches to larger panels and more creative layouts when something major in the story happens. During these transitions there is no loss of detail or quality. Golding handles the action just as well as he does the more introspective moments, but he really blows me away when he switches styles for flashbacks. The flashback style features more precise linework, altered character designs, and a shift in coloring and composition, all of which exude a “retro” sensibility to works perfectly within the story and is an interesting break from the grittier style he uses through the rest of the book.
Overall, The Hunter is a fantastic title that is worth (no pun intended) hunting down. The prestige format does yield a higher cover price, but given the impressiveness of the comic, the high page count (64 pages with no adds), and the quality of the interior and cover paper stocks, it’s well worth the extra cash. I’m extremely thankful to Adam for recommending and sending his book to me and I’m going to throw out a very strong recommendation for The Hunter #1 and #2, both available now.
Issue 1 and 2 are still in the shops SO CHECK UM OUT:-)

The voting for nominations for the Eagle Awards is still open. See the news below for further information
Eagle Awards
I have just received some great news. I’m on a short list of people to be up for a nomination for an Eagle Award. Now the Eagle Awards are kind of like the British BAFTA awards for comics, named after the great British comic “Eagle” which told the exploits of Dan Dare pilot of the future.
I’m up for:
- best new artist
- best artist
- best penciler
- best inker
- best cover for the Hunter issue 1
- best comic for the Hunter issue 1
...and a couple more, so please if you like what I do go to the Eagle Awards website and give me a vote. This is not to win it's just to be nominated, and to be honest I wouldn’t even be bothered if I didn’t win, just being nominated would be more than enough. The end date for nominations is 22nd March and the awards show will be hosted in Bristol this May.
Hunter news
I have just finshed drawing the second issue of the Hunter and I am really happy with it. I'm getting better and better with every page and I'm happy with the way my art style is progressing. The second issue will be in the shops at the end of March/beginning of April, so check it out.
Comic Marts
I have just done the Leeds Comic Mart this week end and it went really well, thanks to everyone that bought art from me. If you are interested in what I draw at these marts then check out pin ups and covers because my convention drawings will be posted as I do them. The next comic mart I’m appearing at is in Manchester in April which is my favourite of all the marts, so I will see you there.
Where have I been and Issue 1 of “The Hunter”
Hi all,
Well I know its totally shocking that I have not updated any news here for a long time...all I can say is I’m very sorry, but it's because of a good reason. I have been too busy drawing! SO what has happened in the time since my last update...plenty! Issue 1 of “THE HUNTER” (Dare Pictures) is out in all good comic book shops and is selling very well. The reviews are great and people in general love the character. I’m drawing issue 2 at the moment and I have almost done. I’m very happy with the way it's turning out and my art and story-telling is getting better and better, so please check out issue 1 and keep an eye out for issue 2 which comes out in march.
Signed issue 1 of “THE HUNTER” with head sketch available here
If you would like a signed first issue of “THE HUNTER” with an exclusive head sketch then please e-mail me bu using the "contat me" form. It will cost £3.00 plus 50p P and P. 64 action packed full colour pages, prestige format signed with a head sketch...BARGAIN!!!
Art updates
There is going to be a lot of new and exciting pictures from me posted here in the next few days, all of which show how I’m growing as a artist. I did contemplate taking off my old pages, but this web site will hold 1000’s of pictures so I opted to keep the old ones on with the new just to see how I’m growing and hopefully getting better as an artist. It’s a shame I cant put up all the pages I have done from the first issue of “THE HUNTER” I’m well past 100 pages of this title but I am allowed to put 5 pages here, so coming soon will be the pencilled versions, inked and the final coloured pages...also plenty of new pin ups, commissions and conventions sketches too.
Convention news
I’m still working the conventions at the weekends. It's great to get out and meet people, as it goes I just sit in my dark dungeon drawing endless pages with nothing but rats for company :-( I’m next at the Manchester comic mart 23rd February at the Sachas hotel, Tib street (doors open at 12.00), then I’m at the Leeds comic mart March 15th at the Leeds metropolitan university (Leslie Silver building) so if you're in the area pop in and say hello.
Bristol comic convention.
BIG COMIC CONVENTION NEWS! Myself and the mighty Adam Hamdy (the writer of the Hunter comics) will be at the big comic convention in Bristol in May. We will be doing a signing session and promoting the first 2 issues of “THE HUNTER” plus I will be drawing commissions for people too...more news to come.
The Hunter facebook club and a chance to win original art.
Hunter is on Facebook as well as myself, so please join up and enter a cool competition to win some original Hunter art work.
The Hunter and other news
Well its been a while since I have updated news here, but I have been really busy getting issue 1 of “THE HUNTER” finished and coloured. Anyways it's totally done and in the bag - 64 full colour pages. I’m really proud of it, it's certainly the best work I have done to date. The issue is listed in Octobers issue of previews and it will hit the shops in December.
The first issue is going to be reviewed on “aint-it-cool-news” and have articles in “Wizard” and “Comics International”. There’s a few pages posted on my My-Space site, so head over there and check them out. Pages will be posted here on the main site in the next few weeks and once the issue is out then I will post the full black and white pages with accompanying coloured art. I start issue 2 this month but due to the massive amount of time it takes to do everything I’m only drawing and inking further issues, the colouring will be tackled by someone else.
In other news, the second season of “Prank Patrol” has started on the BBC. I recorded 3 programs for this season. It's always a blast to do and I look forward to seeing and working with all the PP team again soon. The episodes air on Tuesdays 4.30 on BBC1.
Also with the Christmas holidays coming up I’m listing a lot of art on e-bay as well as commissions, so if you feel like giving someone something a little different but totally cool for Christmas then get in touch with me here on the main site, through e-bay or my my-space site.
I just want to say thank you to all my friends and family for helping me to get this massive project done. I couldn’t have done it without you all:-)
Project H news
Well, I can finally talk about “Project H”. The title is called “THE HUNTER” set in today’s world of government cover ups and black operations. The first part deals with a group of terrorist super soldiers striking at the heart of the United States. It's slick, dark and funny, and I hope people will get as big a kick out of reading it as I have done drawing it.
Click on the link to go to the mini web site. The first issue in this 4 part story arc will be in the shops for December.

Prank Patrol and other news
I just got word from the BBC about returning to appear in the second season of prank patrol which I’m very happy about, so I’m off to Manchester to shoot my first episode next week. In other news I’m 9 pages away from finishing “Project H” the first 50 pages have been sent to previews so it should be listed in the September issue and ready to be in the shops for December. Once it's listed in previews I will be able to say a lot more about the comic, which I can't wait to do.
I appeared at the Leeds comic mart and it went really well. I’m going to be at the Sheffield comic mart on Saturday the 28th of July, then Manchester on August 11th.
And remember if you want any commissions doing then feel free to get in touch through the web site or find me on e-bay under the name “roadrunner-supreme”. In the next few days I'm going to open a shop on the site so check back here for news on that.
And finally on none related comic art news me and my beautiful girlfriend Katie are now engaged, so thank you from both of us to everyone who got in touch and said congratulations :-)
Comic Mart, "Project H" and that cartoon project
The comic mart at Manchester last Saturday went amazingly well. I had a great time and thank you to everyone that bought art from me. I’m next at the Leeds comic mart on 14th July, then Sheffield 28th July, Manchester 11th august and back to Leeds 1st September. So if you’re in the neighbourhood come and check out my stall.
“Project H” (the high profile comic project I’m working on) is going very well. I only have a few pages left to do and I’m really happy with the way its coming together. I can't wait to see it in the shops for Christmas.
The cartoon project is also coming together in leaps and bounds, there’s still a lot of work to be done. But its all very exciting...again it’s just a shame I can’t really talk about the projects in detail. I seem to be constantly eating my fist because I’m rubbish at keeping secrets.
Dave :-)
"Project H" and new cartoon project
"Project H" is coming together really well, which is great. It's turning out to be my best work ever. It's just a shame I can't show it off. The deadline is for the end of July so it can be in the September issue of previews and out for Christmas. It's a 4 issue prestige format with 64 pages of full colour each issue and I can't wait for it to be out there and in the shops.
I am already sorting out doing little signings for the first issue, in fact I have a table at the Manchester comic mart on Saturday 30th June. I will be drawing commissions and sketches so if you're in the neighbourhood then check it out. I'm also planning on working a lot more of the comic mart and comic convention circuit so I will let you all know the dates as and when.
Also on a different note I created a character about 6 years ago and its finally coming out…AS A CARTOON!!! AWESOME!!! It's getting a 5 minute pilot episode and then being shopped around the various stations in the States and there's been a bit of interest from the people behind a very BIG cartoon that's been running for about 16 seasons...again I cant say much about it until things get sorted, but it is a superhero series.
I'm grinning like a nutter...
The Leeds comic book mart at the weekend went very well...did lots of commissions for people and I generally had a great time. I’m going to be at the Manchester comic mart on Saturday June 30th again selling original art and drawing commissions.
Also my fist comic has just come out…General Jack Cosmo presents issue 1. I will be selling the issue on eBay signed with a head sketch of Hadrian Hilliard the Gentleman Barbarian. Also in the next couple of days I will be selling the original pages from this issue, so keep an eye out for those.
Project H I'm working on at the moment is coming along great. The deadline for the fist issue is the end of July so it can make the September issue of previews and then be out for December. All very exciting stuff! It's just a shame I can't say anything about the title but its going to ROCK!!!
Dave:-)
Well, I’m almost half way through “project h” and everyone is really happy with what I’m doing…and I’m really happy about the way I’m improving as an artist. Also I'm cracking on with my commissions. I really enjoy drawing the zombie cards and they're selling great (all my commissions sell on e-bay so have a look in the original comic art section and you will find them).
I have a table at the Leeds comic mart on Saturday 19th May. I will be drawing commissions and sketches so if you are in the neighbourhood then check it out. I’m also planning on working a lot more of the comic mart and comic convention circuit so I will let you all know the dates as and when.
All the best,
Dave
Hi all,
Well I guess a lot of you may be wondering where I have been for the past few months…and if not then you should!I could have been trapped under a cabinet or a small horse…as it stands I wasn’t trapped under anything…I have just been working like a crazy man on an amazing new comic title that is coming out later this year.
Unfortunately I can't really say anything about it because I have signed an iron clad contract that says if I do talk about it then the writer and company can “cut my nuts off” end quote.
What I can say is that’s it’s a superhero title…it's new…and it's set in a real world type setting much like watchmen…which has been done a lot in the past I know, but this is something special.
It’s a 4 issue maxi-series…prestige format 64 pages each issue. I’m working on the first issue at the moment. I’m also colouring and lettering the first issue, then just drawing and inking the last 3 issues. As this is something I can't talk about but I’m going to be working on this for a while I will call it “project H” so keep checking in as I’m going to be giving lots of updates as I work on this title, as well as my own projects such as “Red Comet” and “A life in comics” etc.
So sorry for the wait in new news and images. Keep coming back because there's great things acoming
All the best,
Dave

I will be appearing in the Wakefield express (local news paper), which is great. I was interviewed about my comic book work and the stuff I have done for the BBC...all very cool stuff.
I've drawn a few more things for “Prank Patrol”. I wont be in those episodes, just the art work: a couple of dinosaurs, and I had to draw the acsent of man but with a twist. The ape changes into caveman that finally changes into man…well I had to draw that but have the ape turning into Barney the Prank Patrol presenter. Also I will be back to draw and appear on a few more episodes before the show ends. There are another 8 shows to film so with a bit of luck I may be in a couple more.
I'm working on a bunch of commissions at the moment. They're selling really well so the zombie story is taking longer than expected. Hopefully its worth the wait.

“Regent” is a 5 page story written by American writer Darrin Hunt, a name I’m sure you will hear a lot more from in the future. I drew it in a Curt Swan silver age type of style to match the content of the story. It was a blast to do. The lettered and coloured versions will be added soon!
Check out my “my-space” site for all the zombies I post there. I do way too many to put on the web site. I think I will have to pick the best one and post those. Also I’m working on a 5 page zombie story. I've done the first page which has turned out very nice and when it's all done of course I will be posting it in the sequential section.

I've filmed another episode of “Prank Patrol” for the BBC. I got there late because of a nasty car crash on the M1 so that was bad, but TV always runs late so it wasn’t a problem. This episode needed a space shuttle, so I designed a space shuttle around their idea, which is fine but what I draw is always different to what they make. I thought it turned out well, so that’s ok and they're happy so that’s what counts.
I have started a “my-space” page so if you want to read my daily strips and blog entries check it out. My “my-space” name is davidgoldingcomicartist. Just click the link below to go there.
Also Red Comet issue 1 is shaping up nicely, I’m currently roughing the issue which is written by the mighty Stephen Rodriguez (a future comic book writing genius) so keep checking back here for more news on that, but I will be posting the ruffs for that issue on my “my-space” page in the next couple of days.

I recorded my second episode of prank patrol for the BBC on Tuesday...all went incredibly well and it looks like I’m returning to be in more episodes over the next couple of months.
I was asked to design a sea monster for the episode (which will soon be in the pin ups section), although this design was not used in the show as the creature was already made. It is seen in the background and on my work table. The episodes will be shown in early October, Saturday mornings at 10.30
